This Kharkiv hospital with the capacity to handle 400 patients was suffering from a critical shortage of autoclaves — steam sterilisers used to disinfect surgical instruments. The only autoclaves they had at their disposal were ones that had been manufactured in 1979. We replaced old sterilisers with new ones.
