Two high-precision EKG machines and 1,500 endosurgical clips for a rural hospital

Aid recipient
Lyubashivka Central District Hospital (Odesa region, Ukraine)

This request came from a rather small district hospital in Lyubashivka, a small town in southern Ukraine with a population of less than 10,000. Lyubashivka is 165 km north of Odesa and about the same distance from the border with Moldova.

During wartime, charities often focus on helping hospitals in large cities near the front lines—which is understandable. But rural hospitals desperately need support as well. Within 100km of Lyubashivka, most of the hospitals have had to cut services and lay off staff; many have shut down their surgery, pediatrics and maternity wards. At URGENT, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of these closures.

Since the full-scale Russian invasion began, the Lyubashivka “hromada” (the smallest territorial unit in Ukraine) has welcomed 5,000 displaced people from the regions around Zaporizhzhia and Kherson—which are active war zones.

This influx has significantly increased the workload at the hospital in Lyubashivka; the teams there have treated 2,500+ patients and performed more than 1,500 operations since February 2022. The hospital desperately needs more—and better—equipment. The old machines just won’t cut it.

We successfully delivered 2 new electrocardiograph (EKG) machines and a large supply of surgical clips to Odesa province. Surgical clips are essential for curtailing bleeding and saving time in the operating room.
